Beloved Houston bakery appeals for help amid rising costs before holidays

The Flying Saucer Pie Company, a longtime Houston favorite for pies and other baked goods, is asking for community help this holiday season.
The family-run bakery, known for its famous holiday pie creations, is facing financial challenges due to rising costs.
Owner Heather Leeson said the company didn’t make enough money this year to purchase supplies needed for their annual Thanksgiving and Christmas pie rush — a tradition Houston families have cherished since 1967.
Leeson said it was difficult to ask for help, but keeping the bakery open for the community means everything to her.
“We have a tradition for a lot of families,” Leeson said. “To tell people the pie your grandfather’s been eating for 40 years isn’t available — it’s heartbreaking. It’s scary to think about losing my father’s legacy.”
After sharing her story on social media this week, Leeson said she’s already seen an outpouring of support from loyal customers.
Regulars who stopped by Friday morning said they’re happy to give back to a business that’s been part of their lives for decades.
“They’ve been here for years — they make the best pies,” one customer said. “I’m doing anything I can to support them.”
Leeson said every bit helps — whether customers buy a whole pie, a single slice, a gift card, or even donate a pie for a foster child’s birthday.
The Flying Saucer Pie Company hopes community support will help them continue their sweet holiday tradition for generations to come.
