Montgomery County man sentenced to 35 years in prison for sexually abusing child for at least 3 years
According to court documents, the child journaled about the abuse, but the suspect would find the journals and destroy them.
A 43-year-old man has been sentenced to 35 years in prison for sexually abusing a girl between the ages of 10 and 13 for several years.
Jason Rivera will wake up in prison for the next 30 years after a jury found him guilty of continuous sexual abuse of a child under the age of 14.
“This verdict shows exactly what justice looks like in Montgomery County: a predator exposed, a survivor believed, and a community protected. He spent years trying to silence the truth, but now he’ll spend every day of his sentence facing it,” said District Attorney Brett Ligon.
According to court records, the abuse started in 2021 and continued until the child spoke out in April 2024.
Prosecutors said Rivera manipulated and intimidated the child by telling her that no one would believe her if she spoke out. Court documents also showed that the girl kept a diary, documenting the abuse, but Rivera destroyed it when he found it.
“He might have been able to destroy her diaries, but he couldn’t destroy the truth,” prosecutors told jurors during the trial.
