Police are investigating a deadly shooting that started outside a Southwest Houston nightclub and ended just a few blocks away.
Police say a woman was killed and a man was injured after gunfire erupted as they were leaving Club Aragon, located in the 8100 block of the Southwest Freeway.
Detectives said a fight broke out but it’s still unclear what sparked the altercation or how many people were involved. Police said they don’t yet know whether the fight happened inside or outside the club—or if the business was open at the time.
A group of four people inside a Lincoln sedan left the club when someone started shooting at their vehicle.
Officers later found the bullet-riddled car in a parking lot in the 8500 block of South Gessner Road.
A few blocks away from the club. “The car was shot multiple times,” said Sgt. Stephen Jiminez with HPD’s Homicide Division. “Within the car, the two front passengers, or the driver and the front passenger, were both hit. The driver was transported to the hospital where he’s stable. He’s talking to us. And the front passenger, unfortunately, she passed away. The back two passengers weren’t hit. We are talking with them. ”Jiminez said investigators are also getting reports that several people have shown up at area hospitals with gunshot wounds, saying they were shot in the same area. “There were a lot of people there,” Jiminez said. “I’m sure that some people saw something, and we just haven’t gotten to them yet.”
Police said the woman who died was in her 30s. The driver remains in stable condition. Two other people in the car, another woman and a man, were not hurt.
Detectives first told us they believe an argument between two women escalated, leading their boyfriends to get involved. Police say both men pulled guns and started shooting at each other. Sgt. Jiminez later said police are still piecing everything together and he wasn’t sure about the relationship.
So far, there’s no suspect information or vehicle description, and detectives haven’t determined whether more than one shooter was involved. Anyone with information is urged to contact the Houston Police Homicide Division or Crime Stoppers at (713) 222-TIPS.
