ICE statement reveals new information on alleged stand-off inside Pasadena home that led to arrests of three immigrants

Officials with Immigration and Customs Enforcement provided more information on an operation in Pasadena that drew a crowd of neighbors and a heavy presence of law enforcement yesterday.

The incident was brought to KPRC 2’s attention shortly after noon on Monday, after officers with the Pasadena Police Department were called to 144 West Houston Avenue in Pasadena to assist with crowd control after a gathering formed outside the residence.

According to a statement released by ICE, the situation stemmed from an incident involving Oscar Daniel Barrón-Hernandez, a 28-year-old undocumented immigrant who had reportedly entered the United States illegally on three separate occasions.

ICE attempted to stop Barrón-Hernandez’s car, and he fled the scene. The pursuit led to Barrón-Hernandez’s home in Pasadena and the vehicle’s two other passengers, who were allegedly Barrón-Hernandez’s brother-in-law and co-worker, ran inside and barricaded themselves.

Yesterday, KPRC 2’s Bill Barajas spoke with Margarita Barrón, the suspect’s wife who was in the home during the incident yesterday. She told KPRC 2 she didn’t know why ICE was pursuing the group but acknowledged that her husband and brother were undocumented.

Barrón added there were four children inside the home at the time — the oldest was 12 years old and the youngest just six months.

During the stand-off in the house, a large crowd reportedly formed outside the home. ICE reported that people were yelling expletives at the officers.

Officers were eventually able to de-escalate the situation and convince the three people to exit the home and surrender to authorities.

“We are proud of our ICE law enforcement who handled themselves with the uttermost professionalism as they were taunted and called names for simply enforcing our nation’s laws,” ICE said in a statement.

Barrón said her husband and brother had been in the United States for years and had never committed a crime. In their statement announcing the arrests, ICE said that Barrón-Hernandez’s three deportations were classified as a felony.
