A Houston police officer was injured early Saturday morning after a pickup truck crashed into his patrol vehicle while he was assisting with traffic control on the North Freeway.

The incident occurred around 1:28 a.m. on the northbound entrance ramp to the 10100 block of the North Freeway Service Road, just before West Road.

According to authorities, the HPD officer was blocking the entrance ramp as part of a response to an earlier crash on the freeway when the pickup truck crashed into his vehicle.

The driver of the pickup truck was taken into custody at the scene. Investigators believe alcohol may have been a factor in the crash.

Authorities are urging drivers to exercise caution and avoid impaired driving, especially when approaching crash scenes or emergency vehicles on the roadway.
