Houston Mayor Whitmire announces new Houston facility to combat homelessness

Mayor John Whitmire, along with several other Houston leaders, will announce their plans to establish a new housing facility for homeless Houstonians on Monday.

The new facility, located at 419 Emancipation Avenue, will serve as a resource center under Whitmire’s “End Street Homelessness Initiative,” which connects individuals experiencing hardship with healthcare, behavioral health support, substance use treatment, and pathways to permanent housing.

Whitmire will be joined by Mike Nichols, the Director of the City of Houston Housing and Community Development. Larry Satterwhite, the Director of the Mayor’s Office of Homeland Safety & Security. Noe Diaz, Chief of the Houston Police Department; Thomas Muñoz, Chief of the Houston Fire Department.
