Harris County sees robust voter turnout for odd-year election
The Harris County Clerk’s Office announced that voters have broken the record for the highest voter turnout the county has seen on an odd-year Election Day.
The Harris County Clerk’s Office initially announced that voters have broken the record for the highest voter turnout the county has seen on an odd-year Election Day. However, officials later clarified that the total did not surpass the 2023 odd-year election turnout, meaning no new record was set this year.
During the two-week early voting period, the clerk’s office counted more than 212,000 ballots cast. As of Election Day, over 227,000 additional ballots had been cast, bringing the total to more than 439,000 ballots.
Despite not breaking the 2023 record, which was set at 452,000 ballots, officials said turnout was still robust.
This year’s turn out is still looking to be the second-highest for an odd-year election in the last 25 years.
Polls were open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., and ballots are transported to the Harris County Elections Headquarters warehouse in north Houston.
