AMC Katy Mills 20 unveiled its brand-new IMAX with Laser auditorium on Thursday, marking Houston’s first new IMAX at AMC since 2019 with AMC Metropark Square 10 in Shenandoah. This also marks the third new IMAX at an AMC theatre in the U.S. this year, according to a news release.
AMC says it now has 187 IMAX at AMC screens nationwide, the most of any exhibitor in North America.
What’s the big deal with IMAX with Laser, you ask? AMC describes it as a cutting-edge setup, with a next-gen 4K laser projection system with a redesigned optical engine that delivers sharper, brighter images, deeper contrast and powerful, immersive sound — purpose-built for IMAX screens.

The new auditorium is inside AMC Katy Mills 20 at the Katy Mills mall, serving Katy, west Houston and the surrounding suburbs. Guests can expect full recliner seating and the usual blockbuster line-up — now with the IMAX upgrade.
