The City of Sugar Land announced it is investigating a cyber-incident that has disrupted its internal network infrastructure, according to a statement released by city officials.
The city said the Sugar Land Police Department is working with local, state and federal law enforcement agencies as part of the investigation.
Because the incident has affected some online services, officials said the city is temporarily pausing utility disconnections for non-payment and will not charge late fees until the payment system is restored.
“The City is committed to maintaining services and will provide updates, on our website and social media platforms, as information becomes available,” said Alicia Alaniz, the city’s lead public information officer. “Public safety remains our top priority. Of most importance is that we restore our systems safely and securely to better serve our residents and community.”
City officials have not released details about the scope of the incident or when systems are expected to be fully restored.
