A woman has been detained following a deadly shooting Friday morning in Spring, according to Harris County Pct. 4 Constable Mark Herman’s deputies.

Deputies responded to the scene at 10:45 a.m., located in the 21300 block of Hannover Forest Drive, following reports of multiple gunshots heard in the area.

When they arrived, deputies found two women inside the home, one who was dead in the kitchen, and the other was immediately detained.

Investigators said the 69-year-old woman was killed at the hands of her 27-year-old stepdaughter.

Official say they had been called to the home several times in the past, but not for anything serious and the most recent time they were called out was one or two years ago.

On Friday neighbors reflected on the woman who died and say they never would’ve imagined something like this would happen to someone like her.

“The first day I moved in here, she was right across the street welcoming me and she’s always,” said neighbor Deena Collins. “She’s just a very sweet, very kind lady for this to happen to her.”

There was no history of domestic violence at the home and the two women were the only two who lived at the home.

Later on Friday, Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez identified the suspect as Dakayla Dailey.

“It appears the Dailey was upset her stepmother did not have any money,” the sheriff said in a post on X.
