Houston-area restaurants helping families during SNAP delays and federal worker furloughs
With SNAP benefits delayed and government workers going without pay, some Houston-area restaurants are offering a safety net. Local businesses are handing out free kids’ meals and relief deals for furloughed federal workers until financial support returns.
Houston restaurants are stepping in to help families and federal workers feeling the strain from delayed SNAP benefits and missed paychecks.
Several businesses across the area are now offering free or discounted meals for children and furloughed employees so no one goes hungry.
No paycheck right now? Lasagna House on 1960 is offering free pasta or lasagna with salad and iced tea to furloughed federal workers every Friday. Just show your employee ID.
Splendora food trucks are stepping in to help families struggling during the ongoing SNAP benefit disruption. Blazin Casian, in partnership with A.M. Donuts Splendora, announced it will serve free lunch meals to children until benefits are restored.
Owners say the effort is not political but a commitment to making sure kids in the community do not go hungry. Any child who shows up during lunch hours will receive a free Kid’s Meal, with no purchase required. The child must be present, and meals are limited to one per child.
“Children are our most valuable and most vulnerable. They are our future,” the business shared.
The food truck is open for lunch from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and for dinner from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., located outside A.M. Donuts at 24943 FM 2090 in Splendora. Delivery options are also available through their online ordering page.
The owner noted that the offer will remain in place for as long as necessary while families wait for SNAP benefits to resume
