Fleet Week Houston postponed to 2026 due to government shutdown

Fleet Week Houston scheduled to take place from Nov. 5-12 has been postponed to next year due to the ongoing government shutdown.
The City of Houston made the announcement Wednesday. The decision was made in coordination with U.S. Navy leadership as the ongoing government shutdown presented significant challenges in executing the original dates for the event.
“It’s disappointing that Fleet Week Houston had to be rescheduled because of the government shutdown,” said Mayor John Whitmire. “I want the city’s first fleet week to be an exceptional experience for everyone. The date changes help to ensure we have the time and resources to plan an extraordinary event.”
The Fleet Week Houston Steering Committee is working closely with all partners to determine a revised schedule and the new dates will be announced once confirmed.
“The City of Houston and the Steering Committee want to ensure our inaugural Fleet Week Houston is an outstanding experience that appropriately honors service members and deepens community-military connections,” the city said in a statement.
Fleet Week is an annual tradition of the United States Navy, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard where active duty ships dock in major cities for a week. The public has been able to tour these ships, and the week is accompanied by other special events, such as air shows and military demonstrations.
This year’s Fleet Week would be the first time it has ever come to Houston or Texas.
