The father of the three children who were rescued from a pond with their mother in Liberty County has bonded out of jail after being arrested on unrelated charges of animal cruelty.

ORIGINAL STORY: Mother, three children pulled from pond in Liberty County

Domingo Quintana, 61, was booked into Liberty County Jail on Tuesday. He has been charged with animal cruelty, with a bond set at $5,000.

Quintana posted bond on Wednesday and was released from jail. KPRC 2’s Bill Barajas was at the jail and tried to ask Quintana questions, but he did not answer anything.

Liberty County Sheriff’s Office Captain David Meyers confirmed that Quintana is the husband of the 39-year-old mother, identified as Jessica Quintana, and father of the three children.

On Monday, Quintana contacted local authorities to report that his wife had given their children Nyquil and was attempting to drown them in a pond on their property.

The children and their mother were rescued, and a dive team is currently searching the pond for evidence.

On Wednesday, the sheriff’s office said all three of the children have been medically released and are waiting to be discharged from the hospital.

Upon release from the hospital, the children will be in custody of Child Protective Services. It is unknown the date and time that the children will be released from the hospital.

The mother, Jessica Quintana’s condition has been upgraded from critical to good. She remains in the hospital.

“Investigators continue working with the District Attorney’s Office, and the Texas Rangers on this case. At this time no charges have been filed,” the sheriff’s office said.
