Best Hot Dog: EZ’s Liquor Lounge EZ Dog
This is a new Best Of category but one we expect to be taken seriously moving forward because the humble hot dog is industry in 2025 and particularly in Houston. People love hot dogs and consumed more than 20 billion in the US alone last year. Joey Chestnut didn’t do it all himself. That math maths up to 57 wieners and buns for each of us annually.
In Houston, the places we could order our share have expanded in 2025. We now boast some Portillo’s locations. YoYo’s has long moved from a cart to a brick and mortar. The Umbrella Fellas are now stationed in Segundo Barrio, go check ‘em out. You can get amazing dogs for just $1 on Tuesday nights when the Astros are playing home games at Daikin Park. From food trucks like Trash Panda Drinking Club’s Trash Wagon to independent carts selling Sonoran-styled dogs to late night club-goers on Main Street, there’s lots from which to choose.
The best option we tried in 2025 was the EZ Dog at EZ’s Liquor Lounge. A quarter-pound brisket frank tucked into a soft roll that’s been dusted with garlic celery spice, which might be the winningest part of the very pared-back meal. No bacon wrap, no slaw, no salsa, no sports peppers – just a sturdy, delicious wiener that pops when you bite it, nestled lovingly into an impossibly pillowy bun.
