A postal worker was killed in a crash with a pickup on Antoine Drive in north Harris County.

Harris County deputies are investigating a deadly crash in north Harris County that killed a longtime postal worker on Antoine Drive near Veterans Memorial.
Deputies say the crash happened late Saturday morning in the 11700 block of Antoine Drive and involved a pickup truck and a U.S. Postal Service vehicle.
According to Sheriff Ed Gonzalez, the postal driver was transported to the hospital in critical condition and later died. The pickup driver was detained at the scene after showing possible signs of intoxication and has since been charged with intoxication manslaughter.
Jose Humberto Romero, 50, has been charged with intoxication manslaughter after deputies say he struck the mail truck. The 58-year-old USPS driver was killed in the crash. Romero was found to be intoxicated at the scene, and under a recent change in Texas law, he now faces a first-degree felony charge due to a prior 2023 DWI conviction.
Investigators say the suspect may have been involved in a minor hit-and-run just moments before the fatal crash.
Neighbors told KPRC 2 the victim had worked as a mail carrier in the area for more than 20 years and was well known in the community.
They described him as kind and dependable, often helping elderly residents with their trash cans and stopping to chat during his route.
