Houston sizzles near record highs again before cool front brings late week relief

It’s another steamy day across Houston, with temperatures feeling more like mid-summer than October.

Good news is brewing for those tired of the heat; a cool front is forecast to push through Houston by Thursday evening.

This front is not expected to be dramatic, so don’t count on a sudden blast of chilly air. We’re still waiting on the first REAL fall cold front, it appears we may have to get deep into October before we see it.

Instead, anticipate a gentle but welcome push of cool, dry air moving in from the east northeast.

Looking ahead, the extended forecast is shaping up in a way that’s perfect for outdoor plans. By Thursday, conditions should feel much more pleasant and that trend is set to continue through the weekend.

Tracking the tropics:

Tropical Storm Jerry formed in the Atlantic 10 AM Tuesday. This is expected to be a hurricane by Wednesday afternoon. It is not a threat to the Gulf coast.

Long-range forecasts show it will not hit the United States, but the Windward Islands and Puerto Rico residents should keep an eye on updates. This northward turn is consistent with the pattern seen for most Atlantic storms this hurricane season, similar to Hurricane Erin and Gabrielle.

We’re also watching an area of low-pressure near the northwestern Caribbean Sea that’s producing disorganized storms and is expected to move across the Yucatan Peninsula tonight.

We’ll watch for heavy rounds of rain and gusty winds across the Yucatan, Belize and Southern Mexico the next few days.
