Search warrants obtained by KPRC 2 are revealing new details on what investigators found in the home of a Montgomery County woman accused of shooting her four kids, killing two of them while she was in Brazoria County.

Oninda Romelus, 31, has been charged with two counts of murder and two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. She remains in the Brazoria County Jail on a $14 million bond.

The warrants detail what investigators found inside Romelus’ Porter home, which includes ammunition, electronics and multiple allegedly fraudulent documents.

What happened

Investigators said the Brazoria County Sheriff’s Office received a call at 4:48 a.m. Saturday from a woman saying they needed to respond to the gas station.

When deputies arrived, they found all four children inside the car had been shot.

Sheriff Bo Stallman said two of the children — a 13-year-old boy and a 3-year-old girl — were pronounced dead at the scene. The other two children, an 8-year-old boy and a 9-year-old girl, were flown by Life Flight to a Houston hospital in critical but stable condition.

Romelus was arrested and booked into the Brazoria County Jail.

Court documents show Romelus appeared paranoid about her surroundings and repeatedly looked toward the door during an interview at the Brazoria County Jail.

Investigators say Romelus initially told them she “couldn’t talk about it,” then said, “Instead of them doing it to me, I’m gonna do it to them.” When an investigator asked, “Do what?” she responded, “Kill them all,” records show. When asked again why she called 911, Romelus said she did not call 911 but instead “called the devil.”

Records say Romelus repeatedly stated she was “ready to work,” a remark that detectives said did not make sense in context. When questioned about her children’s whereabouts, she reportedly told deputies they were with “the devil,” adding, “They’re dead,” and, “’Cause you can’t take me without me taking you.” She later said her children were “dead to her,” according to the documents.

What detectives found at Romelus’ home

Investigators went to Romelus’ Porter home as part of an initial search warrant, which was issued with the intent to find another one of Romelus’ children, a 17-year-old boy, who was not with Romelus when the shooting happened.

They broke down the door of the home, but the teenager was not inside. It remains unclear where he is right now.

During an initial search, multiple items including electronics and ammunition, were seized from the home, according to the search warrant.

One of the detectives noticed a large number of social security cards and other documents that gave suspicion of more criminal activity. but it was outside the scope of the original warrant.

A follow-up search warrant was issued, at which time detectives seized 33 social security cards, 48 identification cards and 16 credit cards, along with other items.

The search warrant says detectives saw the social security and identification cards had the identification of numerous different individuals. Some of the identification cards had Romelus’ photo on them, but the names were to different people.

Many of the social security cards and treasury checks had been issued to Romelus’ address, but had other people’s names on them.

Multiple shipping labels, phones, computers, laptops, printers and other devices used “in the course of creating fraudulent pieces of identifying information,” were also found in the office of the home, according to the warrant.
