Near record high heat kicks off Houston’s first full October week

We start our work week with temperatures that are unusual for October in the Houston area.

Monday’s forecast:

Temperatures climb to near-record levels over the next several days, with highs landing between 92 and 94 degrees through midweek.

Record highs for these dates have stood at 94, 95, and 96 degrees since 1928, 1956, and 1962. While it’s not expected that Houston will break any records, it’s shaping up to be remarkably warm, even for early fall. Next Three Days

Mornings aren’t offering much relief either, starting in the lower to mid-70s.

Rain chances low but not zero:

If you’re hoping for a downpour or even a decent shower, the odds aren’t in your favor this week. Monday forecast

We’re looking at a 10 to 20 percent chance for showers each day through Wednesday. Any rain that does pop up is expected to be quick and isolated, with the best chance found toward the southwest part of the area. It’s not a high chance, but it’s there, so you’re not surprised. The highest chance I could find was 20%

Tracking the tropics:

Tropical storm Jerry could form at any time and I think it will be our next hurricane. Long range forecasts show it will not hit the United States but the Windward Islands and Puerto Rico residents should keep an eye on updates. This northward turn is consistent with the pattern seen for most Atlantic storms this hurricane season, similar to Hurricane Erin and Gabrielle. Chance of becoming tropical storm Jerry is 50 to 70 percentSunday October 12, the storm moves north

Your extended forecast:

We’re still waiting on some actual fall weather, but nothing but lower 90s are on board for the next 10 days. 10-day Forecast
