Beloved Houston restaurant Kim Son has announced it will close its longtime downtown location on Jefferson Street later this month due to the I-45 expansion project.

In a heartfelt message posted to Instagram, the restaurant said its final day of service will be Oct. 12, 2025, marking the end of more than four decades serving Houston diners.

“After serving the Houston community for over four decades, Kim Son Jefferson will be saying goodbye on October 12, 2025, due to the I-45 expansion project,” the statement read. “Our journey began at Kim Son on Pease St. in 1982 and continued on Jefferson since 1993.”

The restaurant has been a staple in Houston’s dining scene, known for its authentic Vietnamese and Chinese cuisine and for hosting generations of families, holiday gatherings, and celebrations.

“From cheering on the Rockets, Astros, and Texans to gathering for holidays and special occasions, every moment with you has meant so much,” the post continued. “We’re deeply grateful to our loyal guests, staff, and neighbors who made every visit feel like home.”

Kim Son said its catering and wedding services will continue through the end of 2025, even after the Jefferson location closes.

The family-owned restaurant thanked Houstonians for “43 incredible years” and invited fans to visit its Bellaire location, which remains open.

Kim Son’s Jefferson Street restaurant has been a downtown fixture since 1993, known not only for its food but for its role as a gathering place for Houston’s Vietnamese-American community and beyond.
