A woman is being held on a $14 million bond after an early morning shooting on Saturday left two of her children dead and two others injured in Brazoria County, near Angleton.
A news conference held a day after the tragic incident where Brazoria County Sheriff Bo Stallman gave further details on this shooting.
Sheriff Stallman announced that 31-year-old Oninda Romelus, a Montgomery County resident and the mother of all four children, has been charged with two counts of murder and two counts aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
She was arrested and booked into the Brazoria County Jail on a $14 million bond. She received a $5 million bond for the two murder charges and $2 million bond for the aggravated assault with a deadly weapon charges.
“This event has shaken our community,” Stallman said.
What happened
The manager of a Shell gas station on in Angleton FM 521 and 288 says he saw someone pulled into a gas pump, and police pulled in shortly behind them, confirming the shooting did not happen there.
Investigators said the Brazoria County Sheriff’s Office received a call at 4:48 a.m. Saturday from a woman, stating that they needed to respond the gas station.
When deputies arrived, they found the four children suffering from gunshot wounds inside the vehicle.
Sheriff Stallman said two of the children, a 13-year-old boy and 3-year-old girl, were pronounced dead at the scene. The other two children, an 8-year-old boy and a 9-year-old girl, were flown via Life Flight to a Houston hospital in critical but stable condition.
The shooter, identified as Romelus, was taken into custody and questioned for her role in the shooting.
Stallman said all evidence shows that the shooting happened inside Romelus’ vehicle.
The Brazoria County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that her home in Montgomery County was also searched and is somehow connected to the incident.
Investigators are still working to determine what happened and her motive for the shooting.
